Now live: Traffic surveillance cameras broadcast Florida commuters over the web
The Florida Department of Transportation has recently launched a new program that broadcasts the feeds from its highway surveillance cameras live over the internet. Traffic surveillance cameras are strategically placed on several highways in Florida, including the massive north-to-south I-95.
Commuting Floridians, the bored, and the morbidly curious alike can all now visit the FDOT's SmartSunGuide site and watch traffic on any number of cameras. While the surveillance footage is not recorded, the recording and streaming of the live footage will certainly assist in commute and vacation planning alike.
Traffic surveillance cameras have been commonplace around the country for years, but few municipalities have chosen to broadcast their footage live over the internet. As the use of IP cameras increases, more and more camera users may begin to share their footage with the rest of the world.
