Security cameras protect historic Vale Cemetery
Vale Cemetery in Schenectady, New York, is safer than ever thanks to the recent installation of three public surveillance cameras. The historic, 100-acre cemetery has been victim to vandalism and assorted crimes, including a sexual abuse case earlier in the year. The new surveillance system will give authorities the ability to continuously monitor wide areas of the cemetery they couldn't possibly patrol at all times.
The security cameras are positioned to watch over the burial grounds as well as the streets leading into the cemetery. The Vale Cemetery surveillance system brings the total number of public security cameras in the city to 16. The eventual goal is to reach a total of about 40 cameras situated in high-crime areas and a variety of strategic locations throughout the town.
