Last year, it was estimated that vandals cost the county upwards of $250,000. The damage included graffiti, demolished playgrounds, picnic benches, pavilions and signs, stolen maintenance equipment, and arson. Strategically placed security cameras are known to deter such activity, and the county is hoping its new surveillance strategy will drastically reduce the number of incidents and the amount of money spent on park repairs.
The park security cameras will record continuously, with video footage stored for 48 days in case an incident requires further investigation after the fact.
