Schneider Electric acquires video security leader Pelco
Schneider Electric, a global electrical and building automation conglomerate hailing from France, has announced its purchase of Pelco Inc., a California-based, worldwide video security systems leader. Currently, Pelco serves 130 countries and employs 2,200 people across the globe. Schneider Electric is dishing out $1.54 billion to acquire the company.
Looking to extend its international reach, Schneider Electric plans to make Pelco the center point of it Building Automation business unit. The move will drastically increase the size of the company's current Fire and Security Product Division. The transition from analog CCTV to digital IP-based surveillance equipment is expected to yield substantial growth for the video surveillance industry as a whole. This is something Schneider Electric is well aware of, and the acquisition of Pelco will help them continue to grow in all areas while integrating the latest video surveillance technologies into their security efforts.
