D-Link IP network cameras go Hollywood

We've all paid witness to the less than subtle practice of product placement in movies. I can recall more than one occasion where I've left the theater wondering how I've survived 30 years on this planet without having ever savored Pepsi Zero. But while we're used to seeing soda pop cans and car logos stretched across the big screen, we probably haven't ever considered that the use of surveillance cameras in our favorite action flicks could also be a form of product placement. But guess what? Many of the advanced camera systems used by the James Bonds of the world are now, in fact, a reality. These are real products, made by real manufacturers, and they're available to the public. One of those camera manufacturers is D-Link.

The use of actual D-Link cameras as spy gadgets in real films shows us just how far surveillance technology has come in recent years. The movies used to present us with technology far beyond what was considered humanly possible – the stuff of fantasy. But new IP-based digital surveillance systems are pretty darn cool, and seem right at place in Hollywood motion pictures. Consider the latest Bruce Willis romp, “Live Free or Die Hard.” It stars Bruce Willis and… a D-Link PTZ IP network camera with the company logo prominently displayed. D-Link surveillance products have also made appearances in TV shows such as 24, Medium, Smallville, and more.

Digital technology and IP security cameras have certainly changed the face of the surveillance industry. Features such us remote video monitoring, mobile surveillance and advanced video analytics are no longer mere Hollywood fantasies. They actually exist both on screen and in the real world.
