Super zoom security cameras keep watchful eye on fireworks crowd
Turns out fireworks weren't the only objects being observed at the Orlando Fourth of July festivities last night – the crowd itself, which had gathered to take in the show, was also under close watch by seven highly advanced surveillance cameras.
The cameras, which feature extremely powerful zooming capabilities, were strategically placed around Lake Eola where the annual fireworks display is held. Orlando police utilized the advanced surveillance camera system along with patrol officers to closely monitor the night's events. The surveillance system enabled police to continuously observe the large crowds from every angle, while the cameras' zooming capabilities provided the ability to zoom in on individual faces. A camera mounted to the back of the band shell, for instance, was powerful enough to capture detailed images of faces clear across the lake.
Any time large crowds gather for an event of this nature, there's a chance that violence and other unwelcome activity can ruin a perfectly good time. A portable, sophisticated surveillance system, as demonstrated by the Orlando police, can help to spot suspicious activity as it happens. Additionally, the Fourth of July video footage will be stored for at least the next week in case any reported incidents from the event require further visual investigation.
