Cisco acquires BroadWare
Cisco Systems extended its reach into the video surveillance market yesterday by acquiring BroadWare Technologies, a leading provider of IP surveillance software. The move gives Cisco the tools to develop large-scale, wide-area surveillance networks, for instance those used for monitoring university campuses and government facilities.
BroadWare specializes in software that enables users to monitor and manage video surveillance footage via the Web, and allows for recording and storing audio and video so that it can be accessed remotely by authorized users at any time from any location. This software enables Cisco to provide its customers with cutting edge IP-based surveillance solutions that offer more flexible and convenient monitoring of live and recorded footage, allowing for faster response times, and enhanced investigative abilities. IP-based surveillance also provides companies with the ability to smoothly integrate their video systems with existing security systems and other business tools on a single network.
The acquisition of BroadWare is a logical step for Cisco, which currently offers video surveillance products designed to facilitate the migration from analog video surveillance to digital network solutions. The move puts Cisco in a position to be able to support both IP and analog surveillance installations, while enabling the company to tackle larger surveillance deployments.
