Texas high school vandalism caught on camera
Video surveillance can be an extremely valuable tool in high school security. With threats like violence, vandalism, and theft a constant concern, security cameras can serve as a strong deterrent, and in the case of Grapevine High School in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, as a means of investigation.
Surveillance video taken early Wednesday morning has helped investigators track down seven suspects involved in an inexcusable act of vandalism that resulted in $40,000 worth of damage to the school. The footage reveals seven individuals in hoods peppering the school's hallways with paint guns, while destroying windows and trophy cases along the way.
The Grapevine Police Department has been able to identify the seven suspects, all students at the high school, and all either 17 or 18 years in age. Many of the suspects are Grape Vine High School Seniors. Authorities say they could face felony chargers.
It's quite unfortunate that this act of vandalism took place, but the successful tracking of the suspects by way of video surveillance should set a precedent that will prevent future tactless behavior.
