Surveillance Footage Helps Nab Murder Suspect
Officials in Oklahoma City, OK have connected men seen in surveillance footage from a convenience store to the murder of 34 year old John Tarver. Tarver, who was discovered dead in his home earlier this month, is believed to have been murdered by Delbert Johnson and James Pollard, who were recently arrested on unrelated charges before being connected with Tarver's death.
Officials believe that Johnson and Pollard broke into Tarver's home with intentions to rob him, and that Tarver's murder was a crime of opportunity. After using Tarver's credit card at a convenience store, police and store owners matched the footage from the purchase time to the men, who were then arrested and found to have some of Tarver's possessions, including a big screen television, wallet, and car keys - evidence incriminating enough for their arrest.
Video surveillance and security cameras are often thought of having insular benefits - only helping prevent theft at a retail store or protecting a certain business from intruders. However, this unusual case proves that video surveillance, when used properly and in cooperation with police and other forms of security, can help solve significant crimes.
